About Us

  Our Story

Distribution of hand packed tea on bicycles to the Jaipur hotel chains and restaurants by Sri chandratanji and late sri surajratanji marked the humble beginning of Chandak chai in 1964. We select the tea after we taste from various tea gardens in Assam.

They ventured forth into unknown seas by setting up a wholesale distribution counter in name of Indra tea trading company at telepara, Jaipur to meet the loose tea demand in Rajasthan in 1977.For this purpose, in 1979, Bharat tea agency was setup in Guwahati,Assam to oversee and check the purchase of tea from auction centres there.

Diligence, passion driven by integrity value creation and the commitment to serve only the best quality to the consumers soon made the two brothers experts in the business. Chandak chai pioneered the use of reusable cloth bags in India by creating bags for 5kg and 21kgs respectively.

Their sons followed in their father's footsteps by joining the business. During this time, the company saw continuous expansion and growth in its scale of operation.

Around this decade, need for the packaged tea was recognized by the seven brothers. Several retail outlets -chandak brothers at tripoli a bazar in 1980 ,Chandak traders at SurajPol Mandi in 1982, Chandak tea emporium in 1984 at Johari bazaar & Chandak tea company in 1990 at ramganj bazaar  respectively were opened in Jaipur to meet the demand of packaged tea.

In 1991, a tea packaging unit, Chandak tea products, was built and operationalised at Hirawala Industrial area, Jaipur. Tea was now packed in polyster pouches of various sizes ranging from  5 Grams to 1 kg through state of the art machines to retain the flavour and aroma of the tea.

In 1996, all these companies & packaging units were merged together under the name of Chandak chai pvt ltd. Thus, began the distribution of branded 'Chandak Chai' to the consumers.

Vision to continually serve more than the customer expectations made the director, BM Chandak foray into the grassroot level of tea manufacturing - tea leaves processing and production. He acquired and successfully managed Hautely tea estate and longboi tea estate from 2009 till 2013 under the name of Marudhar Tea Company.

A BRIEF HISTORY

Tea was discovered in China and for hundreds of years, remained a Chinese beverage. Tea grew in popularity in Asia and made its way to Europe and England in the 16th century. In the 1830s, the British East India Company became concerned about the Chinese monopoly on tea, which constituted most of its trade and supported the enormous consumption of tea in Great Britain. The British colonists discovered tea growing wild in Assam and in the 1850s started cultivating tea plantations locally. Historically Indians viewed tea as a herbal medicine rather than as a recreational beverage so consumption of black tea within India remained low until the promotional campaign by the British in the early 20th century, which encouraged factories, mines, and textile mills to provide tea breaks for their workers. Since then, tea has became a big part of the Indian culture.
